Gladstone's Land

Gladstone’s Land, located on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, has a trading and lodging history of over 500 years.

Pyrah Design worked alongside architectural designers Drinkall Dean, who were commissioned by the National Trust for Scotland to create a luxury ice cream and coffee parlour and to redevelop four apartments into luxury accommodation.

Interpretation is embedded throughout the building, the stories of Gladstone’s Land and its inhabitants revealing themselves as visitors use the commercial spaces. Pyrah Design designed the interpretation graphics as well as creating a new brand identity for the site.

The design approach is contemporary, reflecting the buildings continued use as a place of trade, but with a view to the past and a focus on craftsmanship and materials
